Best side jobs for each character in Octopath Traveler 2 (2023)

While Octopath Traveler 2 characters have pre-assigned jobs, you will have the option to assign one in the future. In the areas between cities (usually between chapter 2 and 3 destinations) you will find guild members who will offer you a work permit. There are eight primary and four hidden jobs (Inventor, Armsmaster, Conjurer and Arcanist). In this guide, we will talk about the best side jobs for each character in Octopath Traveler 2.

Best subclasses for all characters in Octopath Traveler 2

Before we tell you anything else, you should know that even though characters can only equip one job at a time, they arekeep everythingsupport skills they unlock. You can only equip five of them at a time, so it may stop unlocking opportunities for jobs you've gained a desired support ability for.

While there is a "best" secondary job for each character, we will also list all the other jobs whose passives can be useful for your class and primary stats. A character's equipped secondary job will also add value to certain stats, which can be the deciding factor for some.

Best side job for Hikari

Hikari is one of the few flawless members of the group, making him onebest character in Octopath Traveler 2-At least in our opinion. Because of this, there really aren't any "better" side jobs for him. As long as it covers a weapon type that the warrior or his learned skills do not have, he can use it. At the end of the game, he can be your weapon master and deal devastating damage to the enemy.

As a warrior whose main responsibility is to taunt enemies, one of the best support abilities Hikari can have is Ensnare, which inflicts random status ailments when taking weapon-based damage. Finally, the Inventor's support skill, Fruits of Labor, increases Phys. and Elem. def. for each job competency learned. This will make Hikari impossible to kill.

Osvald is the Hikari of elemental attacks. Because of your Elem. Heavy attack stats, it's hard to make him anything other than your team's mage. You can give him any secondary job with a spell scholars don't have access to, like light and wind. Max JP consumption for Warrior to unlock the damage cap of 9999. With buffs, Osvald's attacks will later be too powerful to counter.

Best side job for the throne

Throne's attack is decent, which is why many of you might prefer Hunter or Warrior on her. However, its biggest asset is its speed and latent power. We prefer Cleric because of this. For example, Cleric's Revive will only revive the party with one HP. But if you use Thone's Latent Power and use Cure Wounds after that, they'll get back on their feet and out of immediate danger.

The latent power of the throne is also very useful as a merchant. You can turn the first turn to throw an item that will fill your BP gauge, and use the second turn to donate said BP to an ally.

However, let's not deny the potential of a Thief/Hunter combo for the ultimate debuff hero. You can also make Throne your subwarrior if you want to build her more offensively. Sometimes people just prefer to watch their favorite girl kick ass!

Best side job for Agnea

Agnea's speed is second only to Throne. We love Merchant on her so she can conveniently pass BP before the start of the turn. However, since Agnea is only one of three people who are competent mages (her Elem. Atk. base stat is only one point lower than Temeno's), she can also be your team's sub-mage.

Hunter is also a good secondary job on Agnea, mainly due to her latent power. All Together Now turns single target skills into an area. That is, a skill like Leghold Trap can be used to send all enemies to the end of the line. Other Hunter abilities like Take Aim are best used early in the turn, and as mentioned, Agnea is pretty fast! Agnea's latent power is also why Apothecary works well on her. If you're facing a boss that inflicts a ton of status ailments, she can rehabilitate the entire party and protect them from damage.

Best side job for Ochette

The best way to play Ochette is to make the most of the fact that she has the highest base Phys. Atk. and critical statistics in the party. If Hikari couldn't learn skills, Ochette would have been everyone's primary physical DPS. Of course, Warrior or Inventor are the only side jobs that can support this aggressive playstyle. Later, Ochette can also be his weapon master. Don't forget to max the Warrior's JP allocation to unlock the 9999 damage cap.

Best side jobs for Temenos

We know people like to build Temenos as their secondary mage - and you can. But have you seen this man's latent power? This allows him to break the enemy's shield with any attack, regardless of the offensive skill he uses. Elemental Barrage from Scholar (which deals three to five hits depending on RNG) is good for this.

Personally, stacking his defensive stats and throwing a Warrior secondary class at him is just as much fun. Aggressive Blade can fill the shield-breaking role, but you also have Incite, Vengeful Blade, and Stout Wall to help you build up your Latent Gauge faster. As a warrior, Temenos can break boss shields very quickly (and provide support heals). It's a pretty scary sight.

Best side job for partition

As a permanent merchant, Partitio will always have Rest with him. That is, if he runs out of SP, he can restore it with a Boosted Rest. Partitio - whether due to its base stats or the stat boosts provided by the Merchant class - has one of the highest defensive builds of the bunch. If he is your pastor, he will be your eternal guardian angel for life.

The merchant's main function is to generate and pass BP, so we don't like to build Partitio too offensively. Hikari, Ochette or even Throne are better for these roles. A Warrior secondary class can help increase Partitio's Latent Gauge faster with abilities like Incite and Vengeful Blade.

Best side job for Castti

Castti's greatest asset is its blends. You will rarely lean on your major or minor job skills to get anything done before you need to heal or heal in a pinch. But in turn, when she doesn't have to do anything, you can use some dancing skills to help the party. The merchant's Full Power support skill will ensure that Castti's latent power meter is ready for use before each random encounter. She is completely devastated by it.

Like Apothecary, Castti also has high HP, and a Warrior secondary job will increase this stat by a large percentage. Warrior also has the Provoke ability which Castti can use to hit tanks. This setting will also fill her Latent Power gauge quickly, allowing her to keep coming up with solutions without using a single item.

As a final note: keep in mind that these "best" secondary classes do not apply to all games, especially the late games. You will need to plan for this.
